Factory workers protest maltreatment, poor working conditions in Lagos

Some factory workers at a Chinese owned-company on Monday protested poor working condition and maltreatment in the hands of their employers.
“The owners of this company do not have our love at heart. The working condition is poor and they sack people for no just cause,” said one of the protesting workers who spoke to the Guardian.

However, the Guardian learnt that the immediate cause of the protest was the sacking of the leaders of the workers who were championing the cause of their colleagues. They were allegedly sacked because they demanded better wages and working conditions.
“I have never heard of a situation where a company delivers sack letter to its employees houses. The officials of this company went to the houses of the our leaders and gave them sack letters. So when we came here this morning. We decided not to work,” a worker who simply identified herself as Uche told our correspondent.
