WAEC registrar didn’t insult Finance Minister

waec-WASSCE-2015

THE West African Examination Council (WAEC) has denied reports by some online media platforms, which alleged that the council’s Registrar, Dr. Iyi Uwadiae, threw jabs at the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, by offering her a free arithmetic course.

In a statement signed by Abiodun Aduloju, the council’s head of public affairs, he described the report as false and malicious, and said such unruly conduct was not in the character of Dr. Uwadiae.

Reports had surfaced on some online media platforms, alleging that the Finance Minister, had accused WAEC of not remitting accurate funds to Federal Government coffers, which allegedly prompted Dr. Uwadiae was to have said that her calculations were inaccurate and went on to offer her a free course in arithmetic.
But, the council denied the move, insisting it never happened.
“The online publication is worrisome and embarrassing to WAEC, as the registrar did not make the statement credited to him and could not have responded as purported to an allegation in which the name of his organisation was not mentioned.
The registrar does not reside in Nigeria and has not granted a press interview or engaged in an informal chat with any Nigerian media representative or authorised anyone to speak on his behalf concerning the minister’s statement.
Dr. Uwadiae is an experienced public personality seasoned diplomat, who holds sacrosanct the entrenched culture of mutual understanding and respect that exists among all operatives and representatives of the governments of the five member countries of the council.”
