For the people of Amaja, a border community in Enugu –Ezike, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, Enugu State, their lot has been affliction occasioned by long years of neglect.

Buffeted on every side by underdevelopment, insecurity, lack of basic amenities of life, the people are lying prostrate praying that someday, they would be remembered by the government and their story would change for the better.

Studies published yesterday by The Lancet showed that Nigeria ranked second in the global rates of stillbirths.

The report said over 3,000 lives are lost to stillbirth a day across the world, most of which are preventable. Pakistan ranked first while Chad ranked third. Two-thirds of last year’s 2.6 million stillbirths were in Africa.

1. President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday appointed Muhammad Abdallah as the new Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal. He said the appointment took effect from January 11 and will be for a period of five years.
